Fiscardo / Fiskardo Kefalonia

Fiscardo is a small resort with a great ambience and lots of character.

fiscardo
Fiscardo / Fiskardo is a picture postcard harbour set in a natural bay. It was an important port during the Venetian period. It was then that the first dwellings were built which you can still see today. Fiscardo was named after the Norman Robert Guiscard who tried to conquer Kefalonia in 1085 and died there soon after landing on the island.

Fiskardo is at the very northern tip of the island and is strikingly beautiful, with much of its traditional architecture intact. Enjoy a meal and drink at the quayside and watch the world go by.

Fiskardo is featured in tours offered by package holiday operators from other parts of the island but it is in fact a small resort of its own and makes a nice holiday destination. It has a small shingle beach and is perfect for snorkeling and swimming.

Red roofed pastel coloured houses crowd the waterfront looking onto the azure blue bay dancing with yachts. Wander around the village to see some Venetian and neo classic pre-earthquake houses, the only ones on the island, inspect the old Byzantine church on the headland, see the excavations of a Roman site showing sarcophagi, or visit the church of Panagia.

While not really ideal for everyone Fiskardo is a beautiful area of the island and one that is great to explore.
