Friends of the Ionian (FOI) are working to improve the quality of tourism for visitors, islanders and the environment. FOI pioneers simple, practical and fun approaches to making tourism sustainable. Their aim is to ensure that you have access not only to the nearest beach but also to the regions special environment and culture. They produce a variety of leaflets, maps and information packed full of fascinating facts including 'Blast from the Past', a brief history of Kefalonia; 'Kefalonian Tragedies', Louis de Bernieres recounts a hidden side to the island;' Alpha to Omega', get by in Greek; 'Ten Top Trips for Kefalonia', ten ideas for getting to the heart of the island; 'Meze Magic', dine with the Gods; 'Six of the Best', where to experience some of the best food on the island; 'Wild about Kefalonia', the Loggerhead Sea Turtles and Monk Seals of Kefalonia; 'On yer Bike', the coolest way of getting around; 'Appelation Kefalonia', getting to know the island's wines; 'the Birds of Mount Aenos', the orthinological secrets of the Black Mountain.
