Kefalonia Beaches
Kefalonia has some of the best beaches in the world and if you fancy a refreshing change on your holiday you could take a trip to any number of fine beaches other than the one closest to your resort. In Kefalonia you are never far from a great beach and it would be difficult to list them all so this guide will show only beaches with good features that are worth checking out. The most popular beaches in Kefalonia are sandy although we have included some great shingle beaches too as some of the shingle beaches are stunning.
Myrtos beach.
We have to start the list with the world famous Myrtos beach Kefalonia as it is quite simply one of the best beaches in the world, it was recently voted number 5 in the worlds best beaches list. Its position is spectacular with fine white sand resting on clear blue water and enclosed by cliffs. Myrtos beach is a suntrap and gets very hot althought there is a beach bar, sunbeds and umbrella hire. As Myrtos is in the north of Kefalonia it is away from the more popular resorts although it is well worth a day trip.
Skala beach
Skala in Kefalonia has a long (over a mile) and deep sandy beach with crystal water and gtreat facilities. Although it is very popular because of its size it is rarely too crowded. Water sports are available.
Lassi Beaches
Lassi in Kefalonia has a number of beaches with something for everyone.
Kalamia beach is Lassi’s most northern beach. It is sand with a narrow band of shingle by the water. The beach itself is surrounded by white cliffs and is small and pictureseque. You can only access by foot but facilities are good with beach beds a bar and umbrellas available.
Makrys Gialos in Lassi is not far from the main road and is the most popular beach on this stretch of Kefalonia’s coast. It is long with lovely fine sand and lots of great facilities including tavernas, water sports, barsm beds and umbrellas. This beach is great for families.
Platys Gialos in Lassi is slightly smaller than Makrys but has great facilities including changing rooms and showers. It is very inviting with fine sand and a picturesque outlook. Great for families it is close to the White rocks hotel complex.
Gradakia beach is Lassi’s smallest beach with a clear blue sea, fine sand and a bar.
Poros beach
Poros beach is mainly shingle and is not one of the best beaches in Kefalonia but for watersports it is great and has loads to choose from paragliding to pedaloes.
Petania Beach Kefalonia
Located in the north of the island Petani beach is idyllic with a very fine shingle, clear water, moderate facilities and refreshments on hand.
Lourdas Beach
A long stretch of fine sand – silver in colour with just a small edge of shingle all enclosed by a fantastic bay. The beach is quiet as Lourdas is a quiet area but there are facilities close by including beach furniture and bars.
Lixouri beach
Lixouri beach in Kefalonia is set in a small cove with golden sand. It has all the normal facilities and a beautiful setting.
Antisamos beach (near Sami)
While the beach has minimal facilities it does have a violet sea lapping a arc of while pebbles in the most perfect luxury setting.
