Skala is positioned at the base of the mountains on a beautiful pine clad headland. It is now the most popular resort in Kefalonia which is not a surprise as it has over a mile of fine sandy beaches. Whats more the beach is fantastic for families and children as is the sand gently shelves into the sea and as it is so long it rarely gets crowded. Covered by the sun and a turquoise blue sea, the Skala coast is one of the most popular in Kefalonia. Water sports and a dive centre provide an excellent opportunity to fully appreciate the beach. And if you’d prefer not to get sand in between your toes then numerous chic bars have outdoor pools to relax in.

Just 100 yards from the beach in Skala is a small high street which is the hub of the town. The street is lined with local shops that have unusual arts and crafts on sale as well as plenty of necessities! Skala’s main street also has quite a range of bars and resturants to chose from and during the eveing it is closed to traffic maing it even easier for holidaymakers to enjoy their evening.

Sightseeing is a must in Skala and if you have a chance to drag yourself away from the picturesque beach then take a look around the town. The Roman mosaics are simply beautiful and the ruins from the Old Town prior to the earthquake in 1953 let you appreciate the history of Skala.

The infamous loggerhead turtles nest at the Potamaki Beach, now a conservation area. Evening “turtle watches” are organised for tourists wishing to view the exotic species without harming their habitat or threatening their survival.
