Kefalonia Nightlife

Because it is such a beautifully tranquil island, Kefalonia does not have a reputation for nightlife in the same way that other Greek Islands do, and thankfully so. However, holidaymakers and visitors can still find some really great clubs and bars in some towns and resorts if they want and if you want to party the night away it is possible to do so on Kefalonia. You just need to know where to look.

The capital city of Argostoli is the main place for nightlife. There are a number of great nightclubs and music bars on the main street and on a cool evening it is a real pleasure to roam from tavern to tavern stopping along the way to browse in the night market or to have a bite to eat. Move through the old town and the old squares and head down to the harbour and the waterfront where you’ll find a number of great tavernas to watch the sunset from.

There are also a number of popular clubs and bars in all of the main resorts like Skala, Sami, Poros, Lixouri and Fiscardo. In addition you will nearly always find parties going down on the beaches of the resorts during the summer months.

While Kefalonia is more suited to a relaxing holiday – there are obviously other Greek Islands such as Kos and Rhodes which are totally geared up for a party. Stag and hen do’s are big business on these islands where the club 18 – 30 scene is still very much alive. There are however places much closer to home that cater perfectly for a stag do, have similar weather and cut an hour and half off the flight time – giving you more time to party when you arrive.

This year I have been to two stag do’s – one was my own which was in London. It was great fun but it was expensive and the weather wasn’t great. The other was in Portugal which was a real highlight. My friend organised his stag do in Albuferia a small coastal town in the Algarve and booked all the activities with a company called Portugal Rocks. They took care of everything for us including a booze cruise which was amazing in the sun. At 40 years old the hangover was a bit much for me but the younger lads on the trip absolutely loved it.

So if you are looking for place to party I’d give Kefalonia a miss – it really is not the place to go. But I can personally recommend London if you don’t mind risking the weather or for a very similar price why not head to Portugal where the weather is normally spot on, the drinks are cheap and they are geared up for a good party?
